Computer Circuits and Systems Group

The CCS group is a joint venture of the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Rochester, and has been the primary target for growth in both departments, with six new faculty hired since the Fall of 2000.

Faculty

• Paul K. Ampadu, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Research interests: VLSI and exploratory systems research.
• Chen Ding, Assistant Professor of Computer Science. Research interests: compiler technology, memory hierarchy optimization, integration of static and dynamic analysis.
• Sandhya Dwarkadas, Associate Professor of Computer Science, and of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Research interests: parallel and distributed computing, computer architecture, and networks, and in the interaction and interface between the compiler, runtime system, and underlying architecture.
• Eby Friedman, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Research interests: VLSI circuits and systems, CMOS circuits, synchronization, clock distribution, pipelining, speed/power/area tradeoffs.
• Wendi Heinzelman, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and of Computer Science. Research interests: Wireless communications and mobile systems, signal and impage processing, multimedia systems.
• Michael Huang, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and of Computer Science. Research interests: Computer Architecture, Processor Microarchitecture, Energy-Efficient System and Processor Architecture, Processing-In-Memory.
• Martin Margala, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Research interests: Low-power and low-voltage integrated circuit design, testing, and wireless communications; computer graphics hardware; silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology.
• Michael L. Scott, Professor of Computer Science. Research interests: parallel and distributed systems software, multiprocessor synchronization and memory coherence, operating systems, program development tools, compiler technology, programming language design.
• Kai Shen, Assistant Professor of Computer Science. Research interests: Scalable network services, high performance cluster computing, Internet search, and various other areas in parallel and distributed systems.
• Hui Wu, Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Research interests: Integrated circuits and systems for high-frequency, high-speed, wideband, and high-power-efficiency applications in wireless communications, fiber-optic communications, and other related fields.

Collaborators

• David Albonesi, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Systems Laboratory, Cornell University. Research interests: computer architecture, microprocessor design, adaptive architectures, power-aware microarchitecture, multiprocessor systems, performance evaluation.
• Amy Murphy, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, University of Lugano, Switzerland. Research interests: Distributed computing, rapid development of dependable applications in a mobile environment, middleware for mobile applications.
